Notes on Next Steps from Jason
Good,
BSRSI,
October 8, 1997
I wanted to consolidate some of the basics of our meeting on the 6th. As I see it, the first thing we need to do is come up with a workplan we all feel comfortable with. It is my sense that it needs to do principally two things:
1. Provides a malleable schedule of proceedings.
2. Encourages creativity.
Though putting things in an order may be somewhat difficult to swallow, I have created a list or agenda that includes a somewhat rough division of labor. Please let me know if I have left any major things out or if the order of steps should be changed.
In addition, in order to apply a rough time frame to this project, it would be very helpful to know how long it took to finish your major projects from start to finish.
1. Problem Statement -- at first an effort of BSRSI, then a collaborative effort of BSRSI and Commtech
2. Define audience. Do we want a lay audience, a scientific audience or both? -- Principally an effort of BSRSI w/ help from commtech
3. Establish an outline of content, database, and major themes -- principally BSRSI w/ help from commtech
4. A general definition of scope. i.e. should we shoot for one CDROM or a collection (box set) of CDROMS? -- Collaborative effort.
5. Technology assessment -- principally commtech
6. Begin story boarding -- principally BSRSI with heavy input from commtech
7. Brainstorm about aesthetics -- collaborative
8. Begin playing around and prototyping GUIs -- principally commtech with frequent input of BSRSI
9. Develop a more defined and somewhat more constraining workplan for the progression of the project.
