Psychological dependence

A behavior pattern called pseudo-addiction may occur in people whose pain is not relieved because inadequate doses of pain reliever are prescribed.

In pseudo-addiction, a person is forced to show signs of being addicted-asking for more pain medicine before the next dose is expected, and seeming desperate to get more of the medication- because of a real need for more pain relief.

This can easily be prevented by providing good relief in the first place.
