What "nerve pain" is
One thing I would like to say about nerve pain, I think it is a term that is often misunderstood by patients. We say nerve pain and what some people hear is that we're saying it is just because you're nervous. That is not what we're talking about at all. We're talking about a particular nerve or set of nerves which are actually damaged by surgery, by radiation or by a cancerous tumor invading it but people misinterpret that. They misinterpret when we say we're going to use anti-depressant medications as a possible way to treat them. It has nothing to do with depression. It is just another use that we have found for those medications. At lower doses, those medications don't seem o have this other benefit that relieves the pain.
