How do they work?

Corticosteroids work to reduce swelling and inflammation in tissues affected by tumor growth or infiltration.

They are useful in relieving symptoms caused by tumors growing in enclosed spaces (in the brain, or along the spinal cord), as well as bone pain and pain from compression of nerves.

In addition to pain relief, corticosteroids may help a person to feel better overall by improving mood, boosting appetite, and increasing strength and energy.

They are also an effective treatment for some types of nausea and vomiting.
