How to find an acupuncturist

How is it done?

An acupuncturist inserts very fine needles at specific acupuncture points along the meridians to restore balance and thus relieve pain. Some acupuncturists stimulate the needles (after they are inserted) by twirling them, or by using electricity or heat.

First, the acupuncturist must diagnose the imbalance, and then find the proper points to stimulate to bring about harmony. There are hundreds of acupuncture points in the body, and selecting the proper ones to treat is critical to the success of treatment.

Sometimes the pain relieving effect of acupuncture will be immediate, but the peak of the effect is usually 48 hours after the treatment, and lasts for five to ten days.

The needles do not usually hurt when inserted, but a reaction like a mosquito bite may occur near the skin surface.
