Taking Charge

A lot has changed in your life. A future that you once measured in years and decades has now grown shorter. It would be easy to feel helpless at this point; to feel that you are unable to control your future. But coming to terms with this stage of life doesn’t have to mean giving up.

In fact, there are many areas of life where you can still take charge, from practical issues like financial planning to decisions about your care. And though it might be tempting to turn over control to family members or health professionals, the truth is that nobody knows your needs and wishes better than you do. Having others guess at your wishes is a poor substitute for taking charge of planning and decision-making yourself.

It’s important to remember that you can decide how you want to live as you complete your life.
