What's for Dinner? Unit
Relation to Standards
Math
We have drawn on the
National
Council of Teachers of Mathematics
[http://www.enc.org/online/NCTM/280dtoc1.html] to develop this
unit. These standards provide excellent guidelines for teachers on how to focus
mathematics work in their classrooms.
As a math unit, the What's for Dinner? Unit addresses the following standards:
- "Students select and use an appropriate method for computing from among mental
arithmetic, paper-and-pencil, calculator, and computer methods;
use computation, estimation, and proportions to solve problems;
use estimation to check the reasonableness of results." (grade 5-8 standard 7).
- "Students can use mathematics in other curriculum areas and
use mathematics in their daily lives." (grade K-4 standard 4).
