Brief Description

    Students organize a video teleconference over CU-SeeMe to discuss the results of the survey with participants.
Objectives

    Students will:

• Organize a video teleconference with schools in remote locations to discuss the results of the survey.
• Work cooperatively with others to draw conclusions based on the survey results.

Materials & Resources

    In developing our lessons and activities, we made some assumptions about the hardware and software that would be available in the classroom for teachers who visit the LETSNet Website. We assume that teachers using our Internet-based lessons or activities have a computer (PC or Macintosh) with the necessary hardware components (mouse, keyboard, and monitor) as well as software (operating system, TCP/IP software, networking or dial-up software, e-mail and a World Wide Web client program, preferably Netscape, but perhaps Mosaic or Lynx). In the section below, we specify any "special" hardware or software requirements for a lesson or activity (in addition to those described above) and the level of Internet access required to do the activity.

1. Special hardware requirements: QuickTake or other digital camera (optional).
2. Special software requirements: CU-SeeMe software (see Internet Resources below).
3. Internet access: High-speed (greater than 1 MBPS via network).

Activity Description

• Have students contact all the schools that responded to the survey via e-mail and arrange a time for a CU-SeeMe video teleconference so that the survey results can be shared and discussed. Teachers can refer to module one in the Teacher Professional Development area of LETSNet for tips on downloading Internet software.

• Have students invite family and friends who completed the survey to participate in the teleconference, which will take place at school. Scheduling a convenient time for the video teleconference can be tricky based on when classes meet and what time zone they are located in.

• While the students are discussing the survey results during the teleconference, take pictures of them with the QuickTake camera. (See Internet Resources below for an example).
