Social Studies

    We have drawn on the standards outlined by the National Council for the Social Studies [http://www.ncss.org/online/standards/toc.html]. These standards provide excellent guidelines for teachers on how to focus social sciences work in their classrooms. (It should be noted that other aspects of the standards will apply once teachers and students have outlined specific concerns to be researched.)

    An evaluation of how the Current Events Research Unit addresses some of the NCSS social studies standards:

    Students will:

• "Locate, access, analyze, [and] organize ... information about selected public issues" (Standard 10, Civic Ideals and Practices).
