Students will "visit" a great site, Bon Voyage, [http://www.mste.uiuc.edu/glazer/bonvoyage/bonvoyage.html] produced by the Office for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education. While there, students will use the Internet to tour places such as the medieval lands of Europe or the mystical world of Asia. Students will experience authentic learning while exploring actual sites, manipulating real data, creating mathematical functions and planning budgets.
Students will:
- plan a virtual trip
- use a foriegn exchange table
- create an algebraic equation to calculate foreign currency
- develop a budget
- Paper and pencil for notes, all assignments must be typed
- Make a copy of the assignment and criteria for each student or make a transparency for the overhead projector
- PC or Macintosh, monitor and modem
- Access to the Internet and Web browser, preferably Netscape
- Go to the Bon Voyage [http://www.mste.uiuc.edu/glazer/bonvoyage/bonvoyage.html] site
