Relation to Standards

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has created a set of guidelines for teachers to use in developing lesson plans about the Holocaust. These guidelines help teachers focus on and refine the reasons why they teach about the Holocaust and offer a list of methodological issues teachers should take into consideration when they create their plans.

The National Council for the Social Studies "Expectations of Excellence" is also a good resource for teachers developing Holocaust lesson plans. Their sections on "Civic Ideals and Practices," "Power, Authority, and Governance," and "Individuals, Groups and Institutions" provide a framework for establishing curricular goals for any study of the Holocaust.
