- Mix together flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar, sugar and dry milk. Make sure ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Cut in oil with pastry blender (or knives) until mixture looks like course cornmeal.
- Store in covered plastic storage containers at room temperature. Add 2 bay leaves to the stored mixture to discourage bugs.

NOTES: Master Mix is similar to biscuit mixes you in the store, such as Jiffy Mix¨. Bisquick¨. Making your own mix may not save money. Several recipes are included in the other sections of 'Eating Right is Basic' recipes. For more ways to use the Master Mix see pages Mixes-8 through 12.To measure the Master Mix when using it in recipes, first stir then pile it lightly in a cup then level it off with a knife. Whole Grain Master Mix (see page Mixes-15) can be substituted for Master Mix. |
