Oatmeal Cookie Dough

Quantities Ingredients
2 cupsall-purpose flour
2 cupswhole wheat flour
2 teaspoonsalt
1 teaspoonbaking powder
1 teaspoonbaking soda
3 cupsbrown sugar
1 1/2 cupsvegetable shortening
4 cupsoatmeal


Equipment Instructions
  • measuring cup
  • measuring spoon
  • large bowl
  • mixing spoon
  • pastry blender or 2 knives
  • large airtight container

  1. Combine all-purpose flour and whole wheat flours, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Blend well.
  2. Stir in brown sugar and mix well.
  3. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender for 2 knives.
  4. Stir in oatmeal and mix well.
  5. Put in a large container. Label and store in a cool, dry place. Use within 10-12 weeks.

NOTES: Use to make Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (see page Desserts-11) or Oatmeal Jam Bars (see page Desserts-10).Variations: Can use all-shift flour.
