1 pound (2 cups) | light brown or white sugar |
1/2 cup | water |
1/2 teaspoon | vanilla or maple flavoring |

- saucepan

- Bring water and sugar to a boil in saucepan, stirring occasionally. If boiled too long it will be too thick. Water can be added to obtain the right consistency.
- Reduce heat and simmer 3 minutes or longer to obtain desired thickness.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla or maple flavoring.
- Serve warm. Store unused portion in the refrigerator.

NOTES: Variation: Add fresh blueberries during step 2 and omit vanilla or maple flavoring.The nutrient analysis was based on using white (not brown) sugar. |
