Homemade Syrup

Quantities Ingredients
1 pound (2 cups)light brown or white sugar
1/2 cupwater
1/2 teaspoonvanilla or maple flavoring


Equipment Instructions
  • saucepan
  • measuring cup
  • measuring spoon
  • stirring spoon

  1. Bring water and sugar to a boil in saucepan, stirring occasionally. If boiled too long it will be too thick. Water can be added to obtain the right consistency.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer 3 minutes or longer to obtain desired thickness.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla or maple flavoring.
  4. Serve warm. Store unused portion in the refrigerator.

NOTES: Variation: Add fresh blueberries during step 2 and omit vanilla or maple flavoring.The nutrient analysis was based on using white (not brown) sugar.
