In August, 1997, Michigan State University Professor Carrie Heeter moved to San Francisco to experiment with telerelating and to open a portal between digital media arts teaching and research at MSU and digital media arts in Northern California, the international mecca for this emerging industry and home to Silicon Valley and Multimedia Gulch.

The Department of Telecommunication, College of Communication Arts and Sciences, and Office of Libraries, Computing and Technology arranged with Heeter to try an experiment in telecommuting, in which she continued most of her normal duties remotely while using this unique perspective to conduct research on telerelating.

The experiment is beginning its second year. This evolving web site describes each facet: Virtual Carrie; Telerelating Research, and Northern California Connections. Click on each subheading to follow the link.
