What it meant to me
I had the kind of prosthesis where it was the tape on the skin with the Velcro. That was very, very nice and I had liked it. The minute the mastectomy syndrome started I wanted that off. That was just one more annoyance. It certainly didn't cause the pain. It certainly wasn't responsible for making it worse, but I didn't want anything touching me that didn't have to. I found that getting it off was one less annoyance because the skin becomes hyper sensitive. You just don't want anything to touch it. I find I still don't want to go back to that kind of prosthesis even though I probably could. So you learn to protect the area.
