Buprenorphine (Buprenex)Butorphanol (Stadol)Nalbuphine (Nubain)Pentazocine (Talwin) Description:These medications are classified as "mixednarcotic (opioid) agonists/antagonists." Mixed agonists/antagonists work to relieve pain, BUT they can also block the effects of narcotics.
This group of medicines is NOT usually recommended to relieve cancer pain, because they are relatively weak pain relievers with many side effects and they can also block the pain-relieving effect of narcotics.
