Radiation

Radiation therapy for pain relief works the same way as radiation for cancer treatment: by using radiation to damage cancer cells.

This shrinks the tumor or slows its growth, relieving the pain it is causing.

Bone metastases (cancer that has spread to the bones) are the number one reason to use radiation.

Radiation can also relieve pain when a tumor invades a nerve or soft tissue by shrinking the tumor and relieving pressure.
