Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state that allows a person's mind to focus inward and eliminate outside influences. During hypnosis, the unconscious mind opens to therapeutic suggestions that can change a person's behavior and mood.

Hypnosis can help people manage the effects of pain by reducing the fear and anxiety that often go along with it which can even bring about physical and chemical changes in the body. For cancer pain relief, hypnosis is most effective in combination with medical treatments.

When a person goes into a hypnotic state, relaxation and imagery help to focus the mind's attention inward. Sometimes the state of being hypnotized is called a trance - a state of outwardly quieting the body.

The process of going into a trance (or being hypnotized) is called induction, and relaxation or imagery helps to bring this about.
