Distraction

Distraction can help focus your mind away from your pain. It does not cure pain, but focusing the mind away from the pain can help the body relax and change the messages of pain. It is similar to the "counting sheep" method of getting to sleep.

Distraction is most effective in helping to relieve short episodes of mild to moderate pain.

Find a distraction that works for you and use it over and over. A big advantage of distraction is that no matter where you are when pain occurs, you can use distraction to help manage the pain.

It is portable and flexible!

It can be especially helpful while waiting for medications or other treatments to take effect.
