Are you afraid of getting skin cancer?

A couple close relatives of mine had melanomas. It's been a very scary experience. It's brought it home that sun exposure is dangerous and cancer can happen to anyone. Fortunately, these relatives are fine and healthy now, but it really made me realize that having a beautiful tan is not worth the risks involved. I've become much more conscientious about putting on sun screen and wearing hats and doing things to limit sun exposure, while still enjoying the outdoors. I've tried to educate myself about possible skin problems - what they look like and what the warning signs are. If something looks a little suspicious, I'll keep an eye on it for a week or two. If there were any changes in it, I would contact my doctor.
