Out of the blue

It was April 20th of 1993, when I was 31, I found out that I had chronic myelogenous leukemia. It was just like right out of the blue. I kept having recurring sinus infections and was seeing a specialist for those. I was scheduled for some sinus surgery. When they did the blood work for the surgery they discovered the leukemia. That's a kind of leukemia that there's no curative treatment for. When you have this kind of cancer you die unless you're able to have a bone marrow transplant. About half the people who have bone marrow transplants die from the transplant.
