The pain was real

I think one of the things that is very hard when you're dealing with pain is that it doesn't show. The bone marrow transplant physician was very unhelpful. He kept telling me he'd never seen anything like it before. He had never heard anything like it and he started to discount what I was saying. My oncologist in town would say, "Valerie you're doing so good," and I felt really frustrated because I think I was happier than anybody else, but I also was in pain and having to convince doctors that I was in pain was really an awful thing to have to do.
