I think that they try patients first on types of analgesia that aren't invasive.If people have cancer pain that goes over a long period of time they can become adjusted to that form of pain relief. They tolerate it better and have more consciousness than my husband whereas my husband started abruptly. We knew he probably had two to three months to live. He didn't have time to become adjusted to it.
