There are a lot of anti-depressant drugs. And not all of that class of drug work the same way for pain control. Drugs like Elavil, Pamelor, for some reason do work to relieve nerve pain. Whereas other anti-depressants, Prozac, would not work in the same way. As a nurse, if I come into a patient's home and I see that they are on one particular anti-depressant, like Prozac that may not work particularly well for nerve pain, you know, my goal is to try to switch them over to a drug that can do two functions.
