Sarah's Mother's Treatment

Pain right after surgery

Deciding to start chemo

Familiar things worked

Early treatments stopped working

Pills and patches

She was not groggy

Considered a nerve block

A tape of sad love songs

Familiar things worked

She tried massage and I just don't think it was her. She tried a lot of things, but really in the end what worked were things that were familiar. Things that she'd done in the past and things that she felt comfortable with. I would say that was true of pain medication. That was true of food. That was true of social interactions, everything. I think that the longer she went on she realized that when she had cancer was not the time to try to make some revolutionary break through in her life. It was just to have the things around her that had always made her happy and to make sure that she felt safe.
